11. A summary about the book and how you will use it in your classroom.
Grandpa
Green’s great-grandson takes us through the garden of memories, the memories of
Grandpa Green. He tells us about how
long ago his grandfather was born and how his dream of being a horticulturist
was interrupted when he went to fight in World War II. Then Grandpa Green found the love of his life
and went on to have many children, even more grandchildren, but only one
great-grandchild. The great-grandson
tells about how Grandpa Green’s garden helps him remember all of these
wonderful memories while his memory was fading.
I would read this book to pre-school through first grade students on
grandparents day. I would also read this
book when introducing the work horticulture.
Putting that big word in a simple book could help students understand
what it means before telling them.
